About this blog

What this is and why it exists.

The short version

This is a personal blog where I write down things I've figured out while managing Linux servers. The posts exist so I don't have to remember everything — and so maybe someone else doesn't have to spend three hours debugging what I already debugged.

I work with small to mid-size infrastructure: a handful of VPS instances, Ubuntu, Docker, PostgreSQL. Nothing exotic.

Topics

  • Prometheus, Grafana and Alertmanager
  • BorgBackup and rsync-based backup strategies
  • PostgreSQL tuning and administration
  • Ubuntu server maintenance
  • Cron and systemd timers
  • Shell scripting that doesn't break
